Emily's List: Walt Disney Edition

On this day in 1901, Walt Disney was born.

Walt Disney inspects a model of a DisneyWorld building in an undated publicity photoHe co-founded the Walt Disney Company with his brother, which became one of the largest movie production companies in the world.

Disney was the definition of Renaissance man; in addition to being an entrepreneur and launching several theme parks, he was an animator, producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, and eventually, a philanthropist.

He holds the record for the most Oscar nominations (59) and wins (26). In this week's round-up of the best 10 credit-card-related items found on the blogosphere, we celebrate Disney's hundreds of inspiring and heartwarming films that defined many of our childhoods.

1. Ask Mr. Credit Card helps you determine whether it is worth it to use your credit card when it involves a convenience fee. If I was faced with a fee of more than 2 percent on major purchases, I'd feel like "Snow White's" Grumpy the dwarf (it doesn't help that I'm barely above 5 feet).

2. Credit Bloggers provides advice for a reader who swooped in like "Sleeping Beauty's" Prince Charming to help rescue his fiancé from a credit card fiasco, but is now concerned that his good credit is destroyed.

Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow in a publicity still for 'Pirates of the Caribbean'3. What should you do when you're behind on payments? The savvy Captain Jack Sparrow of "Pirates of the Caribbean" would be in favor of looting, but Credit Karma lists five more respectable ways to overcome a mountain of debt.

4. Did you wander into Never Never Land with Peter Pan and go wild with the plastic, only to come back to earth and regret the purchase the next day? Even if a merchant doesn't have explicit return policies, you may have recourse with a government-implemented three-day cooling off period, says Get Rich Slowly.

5. Nobody likes feeling down and out; Cinderella couldn't wait to get out of her rags and into the Cinderella, in a frame from the DVD editionpalace with a prince. But don't be too hasty; if you get desperate and obtain a cash advance, you may find yourself stuck with a pumpkin instead of a gilded coach.Moolanomy explains five reasons why cash advances are a bad idea.

6. Gather Little by Little discusses how debt can introduce stress into your life. This is something Disney princesses never have to experience. I'm jealous.

7.
Blueprint for Financial Prosperity breaks down the total costs of owning a dog. Just don't buy 101 Dalmatians ... then you'll really be in the red. It's hard not to love dogs, but if you're low on cash or already in debt, you may want to think twice before getting one -- they can be extremely expensive.

8. Poorer Than You offers five excellent tricks for paying off credit card debt. Don't worry, they don't involve magic from the likes of Merlin the Magician from "The Sword in the Stone." Anyone can accomplish these tasks.

wonderland.jpg9. Before your teenager goes off to college and disappears down the rabbit hole like Alice in Wonderland, Geezeo says you need to teach them these four important money lessons. Credit cards, of course, are one of them.

10.
Budgets are $exy explains how you can rack up reward points on your credit card while using your plastic responsibly. Oh, to be Mowgli in "The Jungle Book" and have no cares or responsibilities in the world except dancing bears and singing monkeys ... though I suppose there was that evil tiger, Shere Khan, to watch out for.
