Emily's list: 'I have a dream' edition

Martin Luther King Jr. giving his

Martin Luther King Jr. delivering his 'I Have a Dream' speech in 1963.

On this day in 1963, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a legendary speech to 250,000 civil rights protesters in Washington, D.C. This speech contained one of the most memorable quotes in U.S. history: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." We aren't totally there yet, but this year for the first time we have seen an African-American become president and a Latina become a Supreme Court justice. His dream is coming to fruition.

We all have dreams. Some of us dream of a world where health care is more affordable and accessible. Some of us dream of seeing our children grow old and have children. Some of us dream of meeting our heroes. Some of us dream of being freed from the shackles of debt. Whatever your dreams or hopes for the future are, believe in them and strive every day to achieve them.
